Have been a 20 pack a day smoker
For nearly 40 years and stopped cold turkey
On Monday
So have made it 4 days without a smoke
Feel like I am going crazy
And don't want to go near a shop for a while
Until I feel safe to avoid the impulse to buy
A packet
Not easy that's for sure

I still love the smell of cigarettes and to be honest I've never noticed it on a smoker. It doesn't bother me. Looking at a dirty ashtray makes me feel a bit icky though.

One of the benefits I've found with being a non-smoker now is -
not going into a panic about where and when can I go to have a quick puff
while in a place where there is no smoking allowed, i.e theatre, hospital etc.
It's always on your mind, when you smoke.
Hope today is a better day for you, opmania

Yep, travel and airports are so much better!
So great to not be a slave to the smokes. I gave up about 8 years ago and know I will never go back.

I've been quit for 4 years and I still like the smell of cigarette smoke only I don't have the craving to smoke anymore. It wasn't easy for me to quit, one of the hardest things I've ever done which is why I'll never go through that again. When i first quit I though just wait until some hard stress hits you and you'll be back to it, but in that 4 years I have had some really low times and not felt the desire to smoke thank goodness. Well done Op, one day at a time.

As a non smoker who is subjected to it every day, feeling like an involuntary smoker at times, I thank all of you who quit smoking and I know it can't be easy, It's every bit as addictive as cocane or herion.
I Can't walk out the door without breathing it and it's like poison to me. Parking lots, gas stations, shopping is hard, near impossible to get into and out of the stores. It's everywhere, even littered on the ground, the roads and sidewalks are paved with the butts.

And that's the thing Bright. Having that ciggie for stress doesn't really change the situation, does it? Good for you for not caving in.
I think you are on the right track opmania.
You really want it.
Yes you will be cranky one minute, depressed another, fidgety or unable to sleep.
BUT this happens to everyone, even to people who have never smoked...
Cigarettes don't 'fix' anything, They don't relieve stress, they dont help you relax, they don't make you happy and they don't relieve boredom. They never did.

Hi bright
And everyone
Tomorrow will b be the test
I have to venture out to the Sunday market
Where people are smoking
And one of my fav customers always stops
And has a smoke and a chat
Went to garage sales this morning and bought
A Laundry cupboard that was a nice distraction
Nice to see you bright
Not much fun being a lurker really
I suggest that if there are any lurkers out there who
really want to have their say on the boards
Don't be afraid
We know your there. Come out of the dark
And face your fears

another day(yesterday)without smoking- good for you op.
PS- had a bit of a giggle when I was picturing you hiding from your fav customer in the laundry cupboard you bought yesterday ..

Great visual artistic license
No I wont hide
I will just have to grin
And bare it
