Re: "Dogs are way better than Cats"

I would have to say that the most I have been loved was by a dog, and it was unconditional. But what I like about cats is they have character. I tried for 16 years to win over my most recent cat, but he was determined to live his own life and choose his own friends. I think we kinda became mates during his final years, but he was an individual and made sure I always respected that.

Queen Lilli visits all the neighbours, they cant touch her but she walks through their house checking it out'

I am lucky to have such nice people around me that act like it is a treat to have Lilli the building inspector around.

The only people that can touch her is myself and my Grandson

Great historical account and that's just the way cats are. I believe they have a higher intelligence than dogs even though it could be argued that a certain part of a dog's brain is more advanced than a cat's brain.  But the way cats think, their emotions etc., I believe are closer to ours. I have seen people trying to understand what a cat is saying when it sits opposite them and meows They ask if he / she os hungry. "No", then the cat continues. There's something going on there and the cat may be trying to say .... "I just want to let you know that I think you're an OK sort".

You were so lucky to have a cat like that. He was his own man by the sound of things and did stuff on his own terms. Good to know you became mates with him later on. Perhaps after assessing the situation and you, he decided it was time!

Dogs were trained to stay with Man and tied up, cats came on their own to be with us

Re: "Dogs are way better than Cats"

They do.....but they can also be cunning about it.  It's definitely being with you but on their terms.  When I first got my current cat (she was already one year old) she was happy for me to pick her up to be patted.

8 years down the track she will come and sleep on me, sit next to me and she loves head rubs (which is a very cat thing).  BUT.....if I try and pick her up she bolts, because picking her up probably means getting her claws trimmed or administering the monthly flea preventer.  Smart cat.

I did read somewhere that cats try to communicate verbally with humans more than dogs do.  Mind you dogs can't make as many different sounds as a cat can.

My cat does make meows that are quite clear to me - the I'm hungry meow, the I'm sick of this food I want something else meow, the clean my litter tray now meow, the hurry up and get into bed because I want to sleep across you meow, the I'd rather sleep on your pillow instead meow....and the VERY distinctive it's cold and I want to get under the top cover so lift the cover up now meow.  The impatient demanding tone she puts into that one is very impressive...and the actual meow is extremely different from the rest.

That should be OR tied up.

Unfortunately cats don't just stay as they are hunters and unless locked up at night they will search for things to

kill and wild cats have become a big problem for our native animal species .

Personally I hate cats as my OH always had them but then it was left for me to "look after" them and I got

Toxoplasmosis from doing so.

They are the most selfish creature I have ever come across and born killers.

Re: "Dogs are way better than Cats"

I have always kept my cats in at night, mainly because of the nasty tom cats

My old cat Myia never hunted, the Magpies used to run inside amd eat her food and she would just open one eye amd watch them.

MY Budgie Boo Boo boy and Myia  where friends

She would wag her tail and he would chase it

I should have cloned that cat

I love cats

Re: "Dogs are way better than Cats"

Not all cats are hunters.  Some prefer inside comforts and a cosy life.  I once adopted a stray cat that was up to the end of his nine lives.  We were sceptical about how he would take to an indoor life once his health was restored so we gave him the opportunity to go out if he wanted to.  He never did.

I've also had cats that were hunters...one only caught mice.  Another only caught introduced bird species.....mostly because the Aussie birds were too smart.  She also used to be dive bombed by Willie Wagtails which was hilarious.  Magpies would warn other birds about her.  Perhaps introduced birds don't speak Strine. LOL  But that was all years ago when putting the cat out at night was the done thing.

My current cat has a small multi platformed cat enclosure.  She goes out there at night - on patrol - to warn off other cats and dogs.  In the daytime she mostly sleeps.  She ignores birds and the occasional possum growling.  Another cat near her house at night however.....
