I don't know, Bob.
Valentines Day is all about love. Love for a partner, love for a friend or family members. Love for anyone and anything.
To many people take others for granted all throughout the year. To busy with life, work and worries to realize that without love we are nothing.
In my opinion it is nice to be reminded once a year that there are people we love, but hardly ever tell them so.

uuhhhmmm no it's not.
valentines day is (or once upon a time was (15 years ago)) about sending a card to someone you secretly loved. the card was not signed by the lover, the beloved girl/woman had to guess who it was from.
it is NOT about showing your love once a year to your girlfriend/wife.
if you need valentines day to do something for your spouse you don't deserve your spouse (unless it's a really mean and nasty person in which case you do deserve her).
commercial interest have turned that outdated custom into money grabbing.
it's a cynical exercise trying to prey on peoples emotions.
and too many people fall for it. wallies they are.
