Devastating as I thought the Aussies were the stronger team overall.
It will be interesting to see how much fallout there is from their goalkeeper not staying on the line till the ball is
kicked,(the rule of law in soccer is that the keeper must stand on the goalline until the ball is kicked).
If a goal is scored there is no action but if it's saved or missed then another shot is awarded if the keeper
moves.
Their keeper moved forward before each ball was kicked,(thus cutting of the angles and making it easier to get
to the balls that are aimed into the corners or at the top corners).
I played soccer on and off for 30 years and played the majotiy of that time in goals,(I was also a referee for
5 years and have always awarded another shot when the keeper moved as the rule states).
That's what the linesmen are for,(to check the keeper moving).
The keeper is warned that they are not allowed to move of the line before the first penalty is taken.
How international referees and linesmen got it so wrong is beyond me,(she moved metres forward and wasn't
pulled up for it),

there will be no 'fallout' as it was brazil we were playing.
i hate the whole penalty shootout for a game, id much rather when the game ends in a draw and they play the extra time, they take say 2 players from each team off so its still the same numbers on each side. play the extra time, if still a draw, take 2 more players off and play another extra time.

Ok, a lot of Aussies now out of medal contention but nevertheless, wonderful games.
Bahama's first medal in 2016 and it's gold.
Brazil's first medal in pole vault and it's gold.
Australian Kim Brennan trained in track events and wanted to emulate Jana Pittman and go to the Olympics.
After injuries she could no longer compete running and was doing physio on a rowing machine when someone saw her and asked her if she would want to row. They put her in a single scull and she didn't like the two oars as opposed to one on the machine.
She trained and came to Rio and WINS GOLD !!!!!!!!!!!!
Aussies have great medal chances in mens K1 kayak, women's basketball and a few others.

i think australia are doing very well
the difference i think is a lot of countries are now taking sport a lot more seriously.
if the USA didnt allow sports people from a lot of countries to train under sport scholarships in their university system a lot of athletes wouldnt be winning medals.
and who would have thought 30 years ago britain would be so good, what a difference it makes when you take sport seriously.
i still have doubts about some winners from certain countries
and the ones who suddenly pull out a new world record from near nowhere.
i saw one guy fall over during his race, get up and pass everyone and win the gold, for crying out loud, are the rest of those athletes that slow?
the guy who came second to bolt, stole a silver medal from the guy who came third and a bronze from the guy who came fourth..IMO.
its time clean countries announced they would not choose athletes who have been caught cheating, its bad when when the crowd starts booing athletes getting ready to perform. the crowd is saying, we want only clean athletes. not athletes who have cheated and returned.
i hope drug testing improves and we find out who has cheated this time.
