Hi I am expecting and have had severe insomnia and sleep issues since about six or more weeks back.I've had to resort to some drugs and am worried...
does anybody know of any natural things that I can take or any other ideas.I initially fall asleep but wake 15 or 20 mins later and lie awake for age therafter.I live in Brisbane and don't know where to go to get help.I'v e been given a cd of "mindfulness" exercises but they never work:( by some psychologist who say to just say get over it....
does anybody know of somebody good in the Brisbane area who can help with sleep issues..either a clinic or a doctor who has gotten results

I'm not the only person who said that.... And it is my personal opinion, which I am entitled to.

My advice is to ditch the HWB.
Good luck with your search, and let us know how you are progressing.

When I was pregnant, I slept like a log. Very unusual as I'm an awful insomniac. Finally, my doctors found out that I was iron deficient ... and that's why I was sleeping. Maybe there's something in that???
One trick to get to sleep that sometimes works for me is to lie down, on your back, and relax each muscle. Work from your feet up. Wiggle toes individually (as much as you can), then bottom of foot, middle of foot, ankle, then calf ... do it all the way up to the neck.
Try "embracing" the sleeplessness ... get up, read a book, watch a dvd, turn on the TV, listen to the radio ... it works for me, kinda. Sometimes I get back to sleep, sometimes I don't.
I do know a lovely doctor who used to practice in Spring Hill. Male, sensible (oh I love sensible doctors) and he thinks outside the box.

Hi Bigton, sorry to hear that you can't sleep.
Have the drugs you are taking now been prescribed for you 'while' you're pregnant
or pre-pregnancy ?
If they aren't helping I would suggest a check up and a talk with your gp .
All the best

would you know the name of that doctor by any chance? katydidthat
have you had insomnia your whole life.I've never had it before its ruining my life and relationship with my husband...
I've had lots of bloods done thoughout the pregnancy and nobody has mentioned either way on the iron etc...maybe I have too much iron.I'd love to have what you had sleeping like a log...katydidthat.
I don't feel the doctors really get my sitiation, I really don't think they would see a lot of women in 2nd tri complaiing of no sleep..i keep thinking besides the depression that its something else that maybe causing it..like a low level or high level of something or maybe its just me that is going through this:(
the insomnia really sucks and I';ve never ha dto deal with it before and the baby isn't here yet...oi:(

Speak to your Dr about melatonin. Do you see an Obstetrician or a midwife? They should be able to help you.

I've had insomnia since I was about 13.
You could get your iron checked, that's pretty easy. Have you had a general blood analysis done?
The doctor's surgery is really near the Post Office in Spring Hill. That's on Boundary Street. I tried searching for it ... but it's ages since I went there. The doctor had an Anglo-Saxon name like Andrew Smith, and he was knowledgeable about allergies.
Another good doctor was here:

She had a very Indian name (can't remember), but she was also very good and practical.

I don't know if melatonin will help, it helps you get to sleep, not keep you asleep. That's how my son's paediatrician explained it to us anyway.
I wish I could help you more bigton, but all I can do is offer some good wishes and although I haven't been exactly where you are, I do understand what it is like to be depressed. 😞
I hope you get some sleep soon. :-x
