Thanks David....yes I do know most of what you have said but I know there are a lot of my neighbours who have no idea.
I live in an older area and apart from a few new young families who have moved into the area, I am one of the younger ones around here....and I am in my 70s.
Many of the neighbours have no interest in computers and look at you in awe if you say you use a computer.

You may very well be right about that brerrabit, but on the other hand, the scammer might be quite reluctant to report someone blowing a whistle down the phone line at them as they (the scammer), after all is said and done, is attempting to commit what is fraud and theft.

Kinda like someone reporting their dope plants stolen hahahaha
I knew someone in the country who actually did that.
The copper told them 'I didn't hear that'

A lot of oldies around here too. I listened to one spouting her computer knowledge to someone else recently and she really didn't have a clue but thought she was quite knowledgeable.
I checked fairly recently and there was no progress on the nbn being rolled out here. I hope it never gets here because it's going to be wireless and I wouldn't be interested even if it was 500 times faster!!
@tasfleur, I'm pretty sure I heard a few years ago that it's illegal to blow a whistle down the phone, but it could be wrong. It's the only thing that's stopped me doing it.
who are they going to report you to? whistle busters perhaps lol

A few days ago I answered my phone to hear a voice-recorded message telling me that there were some violations or breaches or something in my internet use and that I had to contact Telstra otherwise my internet connection would be terminated.
I didn't even wait for the info on what number to call and I hung up on them.
I'm not even with Telstra.
But what really mattered to me is that if someone phones me and it's a voice recording then I hang up immediately. I mean, it's insulting if someone phones and then there is not even a real person to talk to on the other end.
What are they thinking?

Ditto Lyndal. I am in a very similar position. Have had the supposed telstra scams a fair bit recently. One yesterday wanted to speak to Mr Daydreams re the internet problem. She had no idea what I was talking about when I said he was "Pushing Up Daisys". Probably still scratching her head.lol

you would think a few new ideas would be dreamed up as the comon ones 'telstra, banks, tax department' must be failing 99% of the time as most people have had them numerous times.
i know as soon as i answer by the delay before a person starts talking, plus all the indian chatter in the background.
