How would you react to this scenario?
Driving along a road you see a young boy in school uniform on his way to school waving a gun and knife at passing traffic.
Would you ignore him or take steps to ensure the gun and knife are 'toys' and not the real deal?

Correct, you don't need a licence....why, because they are legal toys.
Approval or exemptions paper work for buying your child a toy gun from a toy store?... what rubbish.
You are confused........they are not prohibited weapons....they are toys.

before school, in his school uniform and walking - pretty fair assumption he was on his way to school. She estimated it would take him another 10 minutes to walk there and that it took her a minute or so to drive there. Takes me and mine longer than that and our school is only 2 klm away from our house max.
They used to allow 10 minutes to walk when we lived 700m away and didn't have to cross any roads etc!...
regardless, the child was endangering the lives of himself and other people. The only identifying feature of this child was his bright shoes and his school uniform.
in the absence of knowing where the child lived or his parent's contact info, If it had have been a saturday, I still would have rang the school (or police).(don't know which one, never encountered a kid waving a toy gun at traffic, but if it was a teddy bear, I'm pretty sure I would have rang the school and informed them of the safety risk a child at their school imposed.
LOL - i even dobbed my own kid in twice - hahahaha - because he does tech stuff for the school, he has more access to stuff than most kids do on the network, and the removal of one of the blocks they impose allowed him access to a site the school wouldn't have approved of. (nothing too bad, but the site contained material that was against some of the teachings of the school),m and another time cos he put info on the ointernet that should only be available to those within the school - and he spelled the name of his school incorectly! (I was like **bleep**? You've been there for 10 years, and it's written on your shirt and just about every book you own FGS!) Let the head of middle years know that despite their vigillant education of internet usage, that it appeared that some kids needed a refresher (and a freakin spelling lesson!)
You would still call the school on a Saturday?.......Not a logical choice......
Perhaps some adults need to be educated on what to do in the case of an emergency......
In this case there was no emergency. Just a pointless complaint.

I think you'll find siggie that not many parents these days buy toy guns for their kids, nor encourage others to buy them.. If the kids want to play cowboys and indians, they use use sticks or something, its good for them to be creative anyway.
When my son was 4, a neighbour gave him a toy gun set for his birthday and at his party he had all these kids handcuffed to the end of his bed
as soon as I freed them, I chucked the lot in the bin
He suffered no psychological trauma from me disposing of them either
. He had a water pistol as most kids do, but never asked for a toy gun

The school staff never reprimanded the OP for giving them this information, why does another member of the pubic think they can state she shouldn't have done it?

I agree. That is why I don't think the comment repeated here, that there are millions of kids in Australia with toy guns is very accurate at all.
What general toy stores, dept stores toy sections still sell toy guns?

Of course, it is entirely possible that I am confused, so please explain to me what this means:
In the state of Victoria, devices that can reasonably be mistaken for working firearms based on their overall appearance (but do not have the functionality of a working firearm) are classified as imitation firearms.
Whilst certain products may have been manufactured as toys, they may have the overall appearance of a firearm and can be reasonably mistaken for an operable firearm.
A Chief Commisioner's Prohibited Weapons Approval or Governor in Council Exemption is required to possess, carry, use, offer for sale or import an imitation firearm.
What does a Chief Commisioner's Prohibited Weapons Approval or Governor in Council Exemption allow you to do?
One of these authorities, will allow you to manufacture, possess, carry, use, sell or import an imitation firearm in the State of Victoria (depending on your genuine reason for obtaining the authority)
(imitations and replicas are not the same thing)
Could you or someone please interpret the above for me?
