Nope, don't buy them
The main reason is, when the big prize goes, they don't stop selling that run of tickets. Therefore I could be buying a ticket with absolutely no hope of winning the main prize.
At least with a raffle everyone who buys a ticket has an equal chance of winning the main prize because the prize is not won until all the tickets are sold.
With scratchies, once the $25,000 (or whatever the main prize is) is claimed, anyone buying a ticket subsequently can only win a minor prize.....but they have no idea that is the case.

Yes, an absolute menace in Newsagents & Tobacconists. Not content with holding up the queues, they're bumping into people on their way out of the door, while the're scatching away on the cards with a coin, like manic mice.

After reading the posts on this thread-had a thought.
Is it possible a newsagent knows how many tickets are left in a series.
If a big prize has not been collected--is it worth a mate buying
alll the remaining tickets in that series.....just saying......................Richo.

I can't find the exact figures now, but for example, it used to be 500,000 tickets per series spread across the State.
I had a customer once, bought a pack of 100 x $2 scratchies, he got about $90.00 cash and a few "free" scratchies that won nothing.
The best odds of "winning a prize" is the $5 jackpot lottery ticket, although overall, I've yet to come out ahead with them too
