On Tuesday morning, Greyhound Racing NSW announced it had engaged former High Court justice Michael McHugh to lead a review into the incidents of live baiting and as well as the supervision and regulation of trial tracks and training facilities.

"This type of behaviour has no part to play in either this sport or any part of our community," Greyhound Racing NSW's chief executive Brent Hogan told ABC radio on Tuesday.   

"We are determined to do anything we can to make sure the sport is rid of that element."

I think and hope there are too many animal lovers to allow this to be swept uner the carpet.

The films were taken in Queensland, NSW and here in Victoria in Tooradin.  The people captured were some of the most powerful in the industry.  They are pretty awful nasty people, but then again it is pretty awful nasty industry.  Greyhounds are such a lovely, clean, friendly dogs.  It is amazing how many GAP greyhounds  can be placed in homes and they make wonderful pets, despite such training.  But most that do not run fast enough are just killed.  But as long as people go to these events and there are millions to be made this is going to go on.

The tsunami of outrage and the cancellations for events  is gathering speed.  Cruelty to dumb animals shows a certain insight into the type of sicko who does this.

As Nova said, Greyhounds are lovely and gentle dogs that make brilliant pets.

Would one not have to starve a dog to make it run after a small animal to get a feed??? Or even feed the dog that particular meat so it gets a taste and smell to chase after?

My mind boggles at the cruelty.

There is no way you would be able to starve a greyhound and expect it to win races.  They are fed highly nutritious food, suitable for such a high performing athlete.  They just love to run, they actually enjoy the chase, unlike horses that need a person belting them.   I never had a greyhound but had many dogs of related sighthound breed.  Mine were fine with our pet rabbit that was let out under supervision to hop around the courtyard, the dogs never showed any inclination to catch him, but when they were let out for run around the paddock, any rabbit that was not fast enough to get through the fence did not live to tell the tale.  They never ate it either.

 I have a mini dachsund, he came to us at around 2 yo so no idea if he was ever starved but he would chase and kill a cat, lizard, possum etc.... if he had opportunity.

I've just finished watching that programme and I'm feeling physically sick Surely there has to be something mentally wrong with those people. You'd have to wonder if they also beat their children and partners and think rape is just a bit of laddish hi-jinks.

I have never liked Grey hounds, mainly because when I was a wee girl at the park with a friend and her Puppy a grey hound killed the puppy in front of us.

I was traumatized for a long time and I am sure my friend was as well.

These grey hound trainers should never hold a licence or be able to own a dog EVER again
