Or maybe  tradition of the region that both religions adopted.  Probably practical, as pork goes off fast and in hot countries could be dangerous.  Wonder when Christians abandoned it?  Are there pigs in Middle East?  If yes, why?

IT'S NOT ABOUT CATHOLIC PRIESTS

FACT: Catholic priests abuse at a rate far lower than that of other males in the general population.

Notwithstanding the media hysteria over sex abuse in the Catholic Church, priests abuse at a rate far lower than that of other males. While even one case of abuse is too many, approximately only 4% of all active priests between 1950 and 2002 were even accused of abuse – a rate far lower than that of other males in the general population.

9 Myths about Priestly Pedophilia

1.  Catholic priests are more likely to be pedophiles than other groups of men.

There's absolutely no evidence that priests are more likely to abuse children than are other groups of men. The use and abuse of children as objects for the sexual gratification of adults is epidemic in all classes, professions, religions, and ethnic communities across the globe, as figures on child pornography, incest, and child prostitution make abundantly clear. Pedophilia (the sexual abuse of a prepubescent child) among priests is extremely rare, affecting only 0.3% of the entire population of clergy.

Re: so.....

frankly, I coun't be less interested. There are weirdos in all parts of society - I was just questioning the reliability of what was said on the RC site as I would question the reliability of ANY site blowing their own trumpet as it were. Peace.
