Re: step children

My step children were in their teens when their dad and I married, it wasnt easy, infact the road was very rocky to start with, mostly because they were influenced by their mother, who hated their father and she made life difficult for everyone.

Yrs on, we, me and the kids get along just fine, I am very close to my eldest stepdaughter, dont see the middle child, she is married and overseas.

The youngest, a boy is 20yrs..........him and me had many indifferences, but now we are close & see him occasionally.

Being a step parent is very hard and comes with its own problems, time and patience is needed for the relationships to grow.

My s/kids call me by my first name or stepmum, either is fine with me.

I think being a stepparent to smaller children would be alot harder, and glad mine were at an age where they understood how things were.

Re: step children

a child may become the stepchild due to the death of a parent. Then there are those that  have only ever one parent.  can be just as hard for the child as the adult.

Some people are just born to be parents, my stepfather is absolutely fantastic. As far as he is concerned we are HIS children. When he and my mother first got together, she was willing to have a child with him, he refused because he didn't want to favour his 'blood' child over his step children, therefore he has never had kids of his own. I think that's a pretty darned big sacrifice to make for three stepkids. 🙂

Re: step children

i was just remnded that we know of a family where both adults are step parents. the fellow  who became a step father first lost his wife in an accident. He took on her 4 children then remarried. Lovely well adjusted family. Some are more loving and caring than biological parents

Re: step children

I have 17 grandchildren - 7 of them steppies - and I love every single one of them equally and unconditionally. I also have one great grandchild (steppie) and one  (in the gene pool - as Mr Elephant would say) due in July.
