They had an instore " specials " barcode, like the ones used on near to expiry date food items. As for the price, I purchased a pack of 9 rolls from Coles yesterday, $8.00 for 9 rolls so not much cheaper.

There has been a lot of grocery inflation since the Corona virus became a thing. A bagged lettuce at Coles today cost $4.50, with un-bagged $2.50. The unbagged shelf was full and the bagged ones near empty. Meat has gone up substantially in price and even my humble 250 ml. Farmers Union ice coffee ( a South Australian staple ) which normally sells for $1.60 was $2.00 today. A 20% increase What The.....

At IGA they just scribble a discounted price

I suppose with the current situation of toilet paper, keeping track of the inventory wouldn't matter so much

and yep, last 9 roll pack cost me over $8, that was weeks ago

Signatures suck.

I read an explanation (or the supermarket attempt at it) on the internet. They were saying they cut back on specials and hiked prices to try to 'lessen demand' so they could concentrate on other things & get supplies out to all their stores without having to worry about 'specials' stock etc

They said it was harder getting some supplies too. So I think some of the green grocery inflation will stay around for a while.

I noticed as you did, that some items zoomed up in price. About 3 weeks back, a friend & I noticed a bag of ordinary carrots had been marked at over $5 I think it was. And a lettuce at one stage reached $6 or so. Mince was in short supply.

But then last week, I saw someone post on facebook that they had picked up 500g mince from Coles for $1. Not marked down, not near end of date. So next time I was in Coles, I swung past. It wasn't $1 here but it was $3. 3 star, which is normally about $6 a pack.

And the pura milk was $1.20 for 2 litres, in date, not marked down.

Mince seems no longer to be in shortage, the rush on that has eased off. But our Aldi no longer even has a toilet paper shelf in the store any more. Turned over to plants and toys. My sister said the same of Wheelers Hill area Aldi.

Things that come and go around here are flour, any specialty rice eg arborio, (although long grain is easier to get), yeast and of course TP.

There seems to be plenty of milk back on shelves but my daughter was stopped at the supermarket recently. She had a couple of fresh ordinary milks and one 1 litre long lif soy milk for her daughter, as her daughter is allergic to cows milk. She was told she could not have 3 at a time. It is hard when you have anyone with an allergy as the soy only comes in 1 litre size and she really needs 3 or 4 for the week as she has to substitute in cooking too.

thats what i said in an earlier post

if we cant get what we need in a once a week shop it means making more trips.

destroying the reduce your trips call.

i can understand the restrictions to a point, but a normal family would use more than 1 bottle of milk a week, id say 3 would be common (6 litres.)

i buy one 2lt bottle and find i struggle to make it last a week,  i only use it in my tea! and i have to keep an eye on the use by date, sometimes it runs out before the weeks ended.

The local Aldi closes at 7pm on weeknights, while their competitors stay open til midnight.

I'm surprised, sometimes that they manage to turn a profit...

I suppose they must recoup their losses with their "Weekly specials" - I've never been into a supermarket, before, where I could kit myself with all I might need for a weekend camping expedition, all in one visit, ha ha...

🙂

It is Easter Sunday David.....there was a time when NO shops were open.   I am more surprised at supermarkets being open than those that are not open today.

Coles and Woolworths are both closed here.  Even on Saturday fresh food was very limited as were the opening hours.

If you really want toilet paper you will have to get up early and be there when the store opens.....it has been available at our Coles every time my OH has been there early.
