Re: the budget

Cuts to family payments for those mums who want to stay home and raise their children.

Big drop from 16yrs olds to 6yr olds IMO

They could have dropped it to 10 or 12 yr olds.

Re: the budget

People who owe money to the Government should not be able to get a Passport to leave the country until the debt is paid, or they have a guarantor for such debt.

When I lived in Germany in the 1950s, my mothers brother wanted to migrate to the USA, but could not get a clearance because he owed the Goernment some back taxes.

My parents went guarators for them and had to trust them that they would send regular payments until the debt was paid up. Because of this my parents could not leave Germany until 1960 to come to Australia.

Fair is fair. If one borrows from anyone, one should be forced to repay the loan before venturing into new projects and refusing to pay back what they borrowed.

To me this is disgusting behaviour. The debt does not only affect the Government, but every tax-payer.

Re: the budget

Overall I think it's a good budget, although I don't agree with subsidising childcare. I don't see why taxpayers should pay to provide

I would rather see tax subsidies go to families so that mums could stay at home and care for their own children until they go to school and mum can re-enter the workforce.

This would also free up a lot of jobs for ppl that want to work but are forced to live on the dole.

I like that backpackers are losing their tax-free threshhold, but that is going upset the farmers who will find it even harder to get pickers. Will that leave the gate open for more 457 visa workers?

I like that they're going after the big corporations that are avoiding tax, like Google and Apple.

I like the tax cuts for the SME businesses. That's a huge boost for the small business owner.

If Joe Hocky wants ppl to use the tax cuts and low interest rates to invest in other ventures, why doesn't government do the same?

Take advantage of the current low interest ratest to build dams, bring water to the farmers and rebuild agriculture and livestock, build roads rails and bridges, like they did in the depression in the US.

Make the Construction companies use Australian labor and free ppl from welfare, use the savings from welfare to bring down the deficit.

FIVE THINGS JOE HOCKEY didn’t say in his budget speech:

Debt up

Deficit up

Spending up

Taxes are up

Unemployment up

But at least you can all sleep easier in your beds  knowing that the State that propped up the country all through the resources boom will  continue to due so  all through the downturn - to the tune of 70cents in every dollar it raises in GST.
