I'm not avoiding what I feel, but I find it difficult to articulate.

How would I describe feeling sadness and happiness at the same time?

Somebody I was fond of has died, but they are somebody that I was fond of and I smile when I think of them.

In the quiet, dark hours of the morning I heard him shuffling around the kitchen, claws clicking on the floor.

He was looking for somewhere to sleep.

I pulled out not the bottom drawer, but the drawer above it, making a corner with a "roof".

He frowned at it, as he does, at first, then slowly shuffled across to it.

Once there, he ruffled his feathers and turned his head over his shoulder and fell asleep.

By the time the pale first light of day had come, he was gone, leaving an open drawer and a tiny, pencil line thin feather sitting on the floor.

A whispered reminder that life goes on.

I entertained the idea of building a Spirit house in the garden, once, a place where they could reside.

I don't think I need to.

I already live in it.

It is a good place, in a good place.

A tree kangaroo toy?

It's an unusual idea. I'll have to give it some thought...

I think these are the colours I'm looking for...

That's starting to look like what I envisaged...

It's a good idea - a water dish for the birds.

A bit of plywood with a hole cut out, screwed down to a flat surface, that holds the dish.

Take it out, clean it, refill it, put it back in.

The birds love them.

Especially the birds who have discovered that they can take the dish out, too.

And not just empty it, and drop it on the ground, but take it away, disappearing it, forever....

I got round that by drilling a small hole in the rim of the dish and attaching a chain.

The birds have a new game, now - take the dish out and leave it dangling.

The best part of the game is waiting for me to bang my head on the dangling water dish, because I haven't noticed it.

They think it's funny...

The things I do to keep them amused, ha ha.
