Is your chance
Keep it clean

Ecar-im sure you will find something suitable for your needs at the right price.
The outfit i mentioned suits me but has one design fault.
With the Gippsland winds-the Akubra needs.....a chin strap.
Richo.

Don't laugh, I used to own a bright orange yachting anorak. With a hood.
I was Kenny before it was fashionable to be Kenny, ha ha.
Warm, waterproof, uglier than the ugly stick used to beat it with, and unfortunately, bordering on antique, so the plastic/fabric had weakened.
I went to stretch my arm, one day, and the shoulder seam tore open.
Oops (To use a polite version of the utterance which I uttered, ha ha).
Old clothes, they look good in the window of trendy, high street shops, but they don't take well to the rough and tumble.

The closest thing you'd get to an Akubra with a chinstrap would be the Army's hat, fur felt.
The best thing I can think of is that you'll have to keep one hand free, at all times, for the hat, ha ha.

Akubra makes the Army hat.
You can get the chinstrap put onto any style of Akubra

Takeaway came out of the house and sat just outside the doorway.
A little face appeared, over her shoulder, and surveyed the world.
The little person said "No", and back they went to the pouch.
Somebody doesn't have much time for the weather when it's cold, and wet, again, ha ha.
There was lots of wriggling and twisting and writhing, and a couple of times I wondered if someone was going fall off the bridge, or not.
But no, everything worked out, more or less. More or less...
I had to laugh at Takeaway walking determinedly down the bridge towards breakfast, with half of little Pyrex still sticking out of the pouch, bumping along the bridge, as they went.
They sorted themselves out before they left for the night, something I'm sure Pyrex would be very happy about, considering they had about 15 minutes before... you guessed it, it started raining, again, ha ha.
It won't be long now, though, before little Pyrex has to face the inevitable, and make the trek to breakfast under it's own steam.
I think I'll call her "her". For the time being it's simpler than using variations on "It".
Seeing as she's going to be part of my life for at least the next two months, I might as well make writing about her somewhat easier on myself, ha ha.
It's hard to believe that in such a short time she'll go from the little face peering nervously over Mum's shoulder to being a cheeky face saying "Where's Mum? Am I safe to come over onto the bridge without her chasing me?".
From three or four months, when they're just taking their first steps, to six months when Mum's saying "That's it, time to go and make your way in the bigger world".
(Except for her nearest older sister, who managed to drag things out to nearly nine months before she finally left home, ha ha).
They grow up fast.

You're right, Lyndal, I've been looking at Akubras, and as long as there's the band inside the hat, you could fit a chinstrap.
Now, when I say "You", I don't mean an enthusiastic amateur like myself, ha ha.
I'd guess the local shoe repair place would be able to take a look and give you a reasonable idea of how viable it would be.
The alternative, one of many, I'm sure, would be to tie the hat on with a scarf like that lady in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang...".

The Akubra factory will fit it for you. The Army hats are special orders with the chinstrap added to a standard hat style.
All members of my family have used Akubras for over 30 years....one in the Army and 3 in the horse showing world.
The saddlery where we used to get ours was able to place special offers with Akubra as the chinstrap was quite popular with the showies....you could not grab your hat when you were coping with an annoyed little pony.

Thank you, Lyndal.
It's good to know that there are people with hands on, if not hats on, experience who can share these things.

How long does it take to get from the front lawn to the magpie nest, and back?
Sunflower kernels...
1...2..3.......12...
Macaroni.
1...2..3...5... Ha ha.
She's quick. She's incredibly quick, but then she does have to compete with a currawong and a wattle bird for the macaroni.
Oh yes, and her sort of helpful daughter who knows how to pick up food and take it in roughly that direction, but then isn't so sure what to do next, so she eats it, ha ha.
A young, small-ish female possum came down to the table with her young one last night.
It's been out of the pouch probably a week or two, and is at that stage where Everything has to be explored.
And you can't walk, you have to scamper, because everything's new and exciting and you can't waste time with walking, ha ha.
She had something to eat, keeping an eye on the little one, while the little one climbed everything it could.
A shelf! A "me" height shelf! This is wonderful! I can climb onto it, and off it again!
I wonder what that smells like?! And that too! And now I'd better scamper over there...
And suddenly, I'm going to stop.
And look tired.
Then climb onto Mum's back...
Mum got that long suffering mum possum look, but kept on eating, anyway, ha ha.
Given a few weeks I'll be seeing the same thing, here, with someone more familiar, ha ha.
