I've cut out a new plywood panel for Takeaway's breakfast spot.

The old panel is actually two pieces, so it's going to be fun playing the "where are all the screws?" game.

I discovered that when I took down the ramp at the end of the Old house.

There's definitely two screws holding the base of it.

One is fairly easy to see, and remove...

The other...?

I couldn't find it's head... How can I fit the screwdriver to it to remove it...?

I'm rough guessing where it would be, unable to see it from where I was standing.

But it Must be there...

It was.

Instead of being screwed in from the top, like the other one, it was screwed in from underneath.

Plain to see, if I knew where to look... ha ha.

So yes, I don't expect any of That kind of surprise this time, but I'll be keeping my eyes open, all the same.

The more immediate task is to put the panel in place, dry fit it, just to ensure that everything works, fits, looks okay.

With cockatoos, nothing is as easy as it sounds, ha ha.

Two old men, two babies (well, very young adults), and at least three other birds stand in my way...

Well, not for long, if I lug a huge piece of plywood out there, but curiosity will get the better of them, knowing them - you're out here, but you haven't brought food... How curious... ha ha.

I'll get the plate into place, a quick pencil mark here or there, if I need one, and then I'll face the dual difficulty of stepping down to the ground, and not stepping on one of the inquisitive horde, ha ha.

"But we Have to know what's going on...", ha ha.

🙂

Just a quick update...

How I could have missed that... ha ha.

The peewit.

He had to be involved, too.

Thankfully, common sense on his part meant stopping for a bit of a look, then moving on, ha ha.

One of the old cockatoos...

That plastic box with the screws in it... It looks like a food box... I'm going to have to keep on coming over and then getting shy, and not quite having a look in it.

But I'm going to keep looking at it... ha ha.

One of the younger birds had to "lend a hand", or a beak...

I'll grab this corner and I'll pull it towards me, then push it away, then pull it towards me, again... ha ha.

I don't really know what the purpose of the exercise was, but it amused him, immensely, ha ha.

What went from "I'll give it a quick check to see if it fits" turned into fitting it into place.

With a little trimming, here and there, everything fitted nicely.

After I put the tools away, I came back and there was already an old man cockatoo perching on it, so I think the new platform has received the tick of approval.

At least from one half of the family, I'll have to wait until this evening to see how well received my handiwork will be, ha ha.

The new platform has been duly inspected, sniffed, sat upon and eaten off, ha ha.

It all looks good...

Except...

"You know what would an ideal addition...? A bridge..".

"But you're already on a bridge...".

"Yes, but I mean a bridge over to there... I've never been over there... I think it looks interesting... I think a bridge over to there would be an excellent addition...Anyway, you're the one who has the ideas and makes them work, so I'll leave it with you and we'll see what you can come up with...".

So... If I build an arch, or a bridge, or some kind of framework, a bridge proper will have to be incorporated into it.

Certainly, one running across to the Brown house.

That way the "arch" isn't a one way street, so to speak - the Brown house has a bridge, so you can go from the pergola bridge, across the "arch", and bridge, and exit if need be via the Brown house.

Believe me, the smaller possum being pursued by Takeaway in one of her "fierce" moods will, no doubt, quietly thank me for my foresight, ha ha.

So there's a bridge there, and all is well and good, but then there's all that pergola heading off in the other direction, crying out to explored, that doesn't have a bridge...

At this point I'm tempted to say that even though it's still on paper, it's already beginning to feel as though it's getting complicated... ha ha.

And there's one more complication yet to mention...

The birds...

To whom a bridge, or indeed any other perch-worthy structure, is a shining beacon, a veritable avian magnet, especially if it's close to the house, because that means they're close to me, ha ha.

Just as it was all becoming complicated, it takes on a whole new dimension of complication, and I haven't yet started to think about potential materials, let alone construction... ha ha.

The old platform was made from two panels.

The first panel came away as though it had been made to come away, the second panel, naturally enough... ha ha.

It was held in place with three screws, two of which came out easily.

And the third...

Nothing I could do would make it move...

I read in one of those self help books, once, about the power of positive suggestion, so I positively suggested to the screw that if it didn't move, I'd resort to simpler means...

I swore at it and gave the side of the panel a tap with the base of the drill.

That turned the panel about an eighth of a turn, which turned out to be just enough to loosen the screw, ha ha.

I'm going to call that a positive outcome and hope that no one groans too loudly at the pun, ha ha.

Birds and Benches and Bowls.

It'd probably make a good illustrated page in a children's book, but in reality...

Birds on Benches are often curious about the contents of the Bowls... ha ha.

It's better to stack the bowls on the ground - that way curious little birds can't make Too much of a mess, ha ha.

In order to stack the bowls, on the ground, standing as I was, next to the bench, I bent at the waist.

The curious old bird whose cheekiness seemingly knows no bounds decided that my back was a relatively flat surface.

So he jumped onto it, and proceeded to walk around, very proudly, ha ha.

At least he hasn't worked out that with a little dexterity on his part, he could sit on my shoulder, and let me know how he's feeling about life, the world, things in general, in that uniquely earsplitting way that he does, often -

"Waaahh!", ha ha.

I think he's working on meeting his FitBird steps target.

Apparently he got an email telling him he'd walked the equivalent of one shoulder to the other, ha ha.
