I rarely use the auto setting on my camera mainly have it on the AV setting. My old film SLR was manual and when I finally bought the DSLR I did a one day workshop with a local photographer that was very helpful. It was a lighting workshop but they still ran through the basic settings.
There is no need to wtrite down the settings you use it should be on the 'info' part of the individual photo?

i wrote them down as a way of learning what I did wrong at each point in time. I was very new to digital so it was the only way I knew.
My biggest problem with photography and really its rule number 1 is the rule of thirds. Its something i do really struggle with. My course was great and covered all the basics of the camera, so Im much more confident in which settings are needed.
Still to scared to shoot raw, but i'll get there one day

Yes I should shoot RAW but rarely do, the size of the files puts me off a bit.

Thanks Poddy Should be fun. Especially looking forward to taking more macro shots.
Isn't digital photography great? For my first eBay listing, I used scanned photos taken by a film camera.

Try a butterfly's or a moth's eye 🙂
Be prepared to be surprised
Perhaps a macro photography thread in the new year would be cool 🙂

I wish I had the funds for a proper macro lens. The one I really want is $1100 😞
