And her first words tell astory. Not only wanting details, but stating that she had him on camera. She was not even hurt, and her reaction sounds suss to me.

The Melbourne Lord Mayor was talking about this on the ABC this morning and he said that is not a bike lane but a gutter.
I think he said there is a proper bike lane there further to the right, though I'm not sure.

If you ride a bike or a motorcycle its best to ride with the attitude that drivers wouldn't be too unhappy to kill you, it saves a lot of skin.
having said that it doesn't look a lot like a bike lane in melbourne. but they do vary in width depending on the location.

Quite a carry on about this on facebook today. Most people seem to siding with the man in the taxi, although its still unclear whether he's legally at fault or not.
From what I can gather (if you can believe what you read on facebook) its definitely a gutter, not a bike path. Bike paths should be 1.2 metres wide, the gutter is quite a bit less. So he probably shouldnt have got out where he did, but then you dont expect a cyclist to be speeding down the gutter either.
Apparently he's "assisting police with their enquiries"
Most people are pretty peeved with the cyclists attitude, he straight away apologised and she bit straight back with wanting his details and "its all on camera" its like she was hoping it would happen so she could prove a point.
I dont mind the cyclists, or motorcyclists even, passing the stationary cars at lights and getting to the front. But using a bit of caution wouldnt hurt. Motorcyclists usually get between the lanes of cars at a slowed down, safe pace, but cyclists just keep flying along. Often when they get to the red lights they ride straight through along the pedestrian crossings too. Its about time some clear laws were put in place I think.

They have bike lanes but rarely stay in them. If there is 2 or more of them they ride side by side rather than single file.
Its time bikers stay paying rego to use the roads
Oh so true......
and the motorway closes for a bike ride, and they don't have to stop at red lights, and they don't have to worry about pedestrian crossings, and they .......................
YUP - registration for all bike riders would be a 'blinking' good thing - bet the numbers would drop quick smart.

You should live in The Dandenongs in Melbourne, the roads are narrow as it is, and they ride 2 sometimes 3 a breast and they dont move for anyone, and you cant pass as it is mostly a double line through the hills.
The CFA asked that they not ride in the hills on Fire Ban Days, but they took no notice & one of them said he *could out ride a fire*, ......they should be banned in the hills, the majority are so arrogant.
