aks is mine.......instead of ask. Why can't people get that right and it is quite common, also picked up alot so I don't get why people can't say it correctly.

what astonishes me is that there are so many here who have english as their first language and yet are unable to spell.
i probably would be too ashamed to post anymore if a foreigner would correct my spelling in my first language.
what does irk me is when ppl are unable to use then/than and too/to correctly.
geez! it's not that hard. i am a foreigner and manage to get it right.

Sometimes a mistake is just that.......a typo or just rushing or even a sticky keyboard.
Some people just never learn to spell correctly, for some it is easy, for others more difficult. There can be many reasons someone can't spell.

I am dreading another seven months of a-lection news rather than e-lection news (particularly bad on the radio - even ABC)

I know of someone who pronounces the word sibling (ie brother or sister) as sybling.
'Should of' annoys the bejeebers out of me too.

Guilty 😞 I do know the difference but I don't take enough time when I'm typing to make sure I have the correct one. And I'm sitting sideway in the lounge chair, in the dark, with laptop on my chest so really it's a feat to get as many words right as I do 😛

kelso, i don't mind typos if the content of the text is of such quality that i don't have to wonder if there is anyone home in the head of the posting person or if the dog got hold of the keyboard 😉

Supposably instead of Supposedly
Bolth instead of Both (Americans are mainly guilty of this)
Effect instead of Affect and vice versa.
When people spell ridiculous like rediculous
Discusting instead of Disgusting

Haven't read the thread, so don't know if already mentioned, but these irk me:
Olympics - Alympics
Eleven - Aleven

Common misuse of a word widely accepted , even by some dictionaries is orientated. it should be oriented.
