I,ve hit quite a few over the years including writing off two cars with roo hits. One of the most important things if you hit one head on, at highway speed is to keep an eye on it as it flies through the air. Under these conditions they often land on the windscreen and enter the car cabin while still kicking and alive. This has resulted in fatal crashes for occupants.
I had this set of circumstances many years ago and actually had to speed up or brake ( cant remember which now ) to prevent the flying roo from hitting the windscreen. It landed on the roof instead !!!
Also important not to break too heavily in order to come to a controlled stop without losing control of the car. Easier said than done if the roo is pinned under the car. I had this one happen about ten years ago. In this case the roo took the sump off the engine of a nearly brand new car leaving the engine running without any oil.. Luckily the insurance replaced it with another new car.
