She looks as if she is passing him on the right. Are they together?
i don't think so.
he is too close to the wall.
that's not natural if you walk alone.

OK second guess.
He's a yobbo walking with his hands in his pockets.
Is there actually an answer to this or what?

She could be just walking past a random stranger because she was is in a rush to get to where she is going. He might be on a leisurely stroll.
so someone decided to take a photo of
a random woman passing a man on the footpath.
that makes sense
the photo was taken because there was something
wrong with the scene.

There is nothing wrong with the scene. IF they are walking together it's none of anyone else's business how they choose to walk together.

I was taught that the man had to walk on the outside of the footpath
so the woman doesn't get splashed by a passing car.
Nothing to do with swords there.

Same here but times have changed and now I'd rather teach my kids stuff that's useful for this century. :D:D

No, I'm not missing the point. I do not believe the point is appropriate to the century in which we live.
When those rules were accepted and applied women had few rights, were considered owned by their husbands, did not have to consent to sex and could be beaten to a pulp at a whim or disgarded to a nut house when he got sick of her. Times have changed. In this century there is nothing wrong with that photo.
