Squirt them with the hose if they're not clever enough to look after themselves?
Or you could cool the bathroom tiles with water...my feral cats used to congregate in there. They loved the tub, too. And the sink ;\
@:D @ catmad and again 😄
I promise I didn't know you posted this before I did my post.

I've laid wet towels on the tiled floor in the laundry and on the stone in the fireplace. They refuse to lay down on anything wet! I've tried misting them with cool water from a spray bottle but they run away and get even more hot.
I've placed various containers of water all over the place. These are very long haired kitties. Imagine wearing a fur coat in this heat!
Its now 34 C. Lower than the house temp so it's time to open all the windows and doors. yay

My cats have been refusing to drink water so by this afternoon I've had to invent some ingenious ways of getting fluid into them. My deaf kitty likes to drink from my coffee cups so I've place a coffee cup of water near him. He took a few sips. With my Birman I had to dribble water into her mouth and Thai my Persian .... it was weird. I dipped my fingers in a bowl of water and offered them to him and he started biting them. So I have a few bitten fingers but at least I managed to get some water into him even if it was a few drops. I've tried giving them ice cubes to play with ... I've been wiping them down with a wet cloth. My next plan is to dip their paws in water. They might try to rip my face off ... but they need to cool down lol.
I have to go to work tomorrow and Friday 😞 I hope they'll cope.
Put them in the bathroom so they can lie on the tiles.
One of my cats has only had a drink this morning, she is asleep on my scrapbook table, been there all day. The purebred british short hair has had numerous drinks and is on the bathroom floor........
Cats walk outside in the rain so dipping paws in water is good idea.
Hate to tell you, but tomorrow is going to be 44 deg.

No 45+ plus days here so far, Sth Coast NSW thankfully but we did have some in Jan last year.
Seems the heat makes some wear their cranky pants.
edit: this post not a reply to bluecat.

Just did some quick research... apparently cats are descendants of the desert and are fine in the heat. In fact it seems they cope better than we do...
Some will opt to sit in front of the air con if you have one but most will find a place they are comfortable with and do nothing...
leave water out... allow access to cool places and let them decide what to do.
Only worry if they are panting excessively and appear distressed.
My cats cope fine in the heat... my friends cat had long hair it it was fine up here during summer..
Cat_mioux it sounds like you should not worry too much and let them look after themselves and just keep a watchful eye over them.

They would be acclimatised to that wouldn't they? Also they don't have high humidity levels do they?
When you are used to summer temps of 30 deg and below a 45+ day or two knocks you over.
