The long answer is that it is theoretically possible if you (a) haven't used the PC since you emptied the recycle bin, and (b) have a hex editor installed.

Also, if you somehow managed to set a restore point between the time you deleted the file and the time you emptied the recycle bin, restoring the PC to that restore point may allow you to retrieve the file.

Or if you performed a drive backup while the file existed, whether in the recycle bin or not, you can also recover it that way.

However, unless any of the above conditions are true, then the short answer is basically no, it's probably gone forever. Sorry.

I suppose you realise that 'moving' an item to the recycle bin doesn't really move it anywhere, but simply changes the filename's first character in the FAT so that it's no longer visible to the OS, don't you? That's why mine is disabled completely. When I delete something, I don't just want it hidden from view but still wasting space on my hard drive, I want it gone forever.

Nothing is gone forever, lol..... If it is important enough, go down to your computer software shop and buy some file retrieval software. Everything you delete remains on harddrive unless it is overwritten. A harddrive will continue to write to new space unless it is full. Even if you format your hard drive, 80% of all old files can be retrieved. Software can be purchased for around $80 to do this. Enjoy:)

I do have a copy of PC Tools File Undelete for my NTFS drives but it's not as effective as I'd have hoped, and as soon as something else is written to the cluster concerned, the original file is essentially irretrievable. It basically only recovers a file if you run it as soon as you've accidentally deleted it.

A devoted file retrieval program is best and everything can be brought back to life unless its overwritten. Google some file retrieval programs. For best results, remove the harddrive from your computer and scan it with another computer which has the retrieval software installed. It is far more effective scanning a harddrive that is not running the operating system as well as scanning itself for lost files as well. Your also doing a great job in helping others here, providing wonderful feedback. Good work cq_tech.

Thank you, your kind words are appreciated but I'm just one of several members who devote a great deal of their time towards helping those users that eBay can't (or won't).
