Australian DVDs are Region 4, US DVDs are region 1. They are not interchangeable and you can only play both on a region-free DVD player.

Re: What is the ..

You also have region free DVD's sold in Australia,(I have sold a "few" of those).

Region code Area FREE Informal term meaning "worldwide". Region 0 is not an official setting; discs that bear

the region 0 symbol either have no flag set or have regions 1โ€“6 flags set. Region 0 is commonly referred to as

"Region Free", especially when talking about DVD and Blu-ray Disc players.

Region 1: United States, Canada, Bermuda, Caribbean, U.S. territories

Region 4: South America, Central America, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea and much of

Oceania

Re: What is the ..

Aust DVDs are also in PAL format but US ones are in NTSC format. So even if they were region free, they would still need a multi format player to play on both...

Most Aust DVD players are multi format but thar may not be so in the US..
