That is something you need to ask the seller about.
Paying with paypal is your protection if there is an issue with the item purchased.

Hi , my understanding is that a Buyer is protected by Australian consumer laws if the item is new and supplied by a business located within Australia - however I do not know the details

Warranties are usually not transferable by manufacturer if item is resold.
Only authorised resellers give genuine warranties.
Warranties are not enforcable for auction items only Buy it now.
Even then many sellers do not honour them as they are not reachable over the internet.
If it is a costly item and you cannot find a genuine reseller of a known name brand over the internet, best to go into a store.
