Choose and Change (New Game)

Let's try this new game... 🙂

You have a word and have to write a sentence with an antonym of this word (it must not be a perfect antonym/opposite). The sentence must contain at least three other words (not including articles, pronouns etc.)

The next poster then chooses a word from the sentence of the previous poster (not the antonym, any other word) and builds a new sentence with the antonym of the word he or she has chosen.

For example:

START - She finished her delicious meal in no time.

The antonym of "start" is "finish/finished", so the next poster has to choose between "delicious", "meal" and "time" (the antonym can't be used) and has to write a sentence with the antonym of the chosen word and with at least three other nouns.

WORKING - His mother was extremely annoyed when she discovered that he had been idling away his time instead of studying for his upcoming exams.

UPCOMING - His erstwhile school days gave him no comfort, for all that he remembered was scorn, bullying, humiliation, and his bike being stolen by Billy Thrupple.

COMFORT - She wished she could snuggle in bed a little longer, but her early morning aches and pains caused her so much discomfort that her only option was to leave the warmth of her blankets and hobble to the kitchen to turn on the kettle.

HOBBLE - Outside, the frost glazed the grass, the taps, the unseasonable mushrooms sitting the ground, the pebble-lined path to the stables… but this in no wise dissuaded the young puppy from dashing out to gambol friskily in the brisk air.

FROST - She liked to walk on meadows barefoot first thing in the morning, when the grass blades were still shining with dew reflecting the first sunrays.

FIRST - Every night before bed, he made sure that his last thought was of his darling wife who he missed dreadfully as she often travelled away for work.

BED - The council secretary had been told that the standing desk would help her with the pain in her hips, but so far it didn’t seem to be any better; ah well, she’d keep using it in the hopes that it would have a long-term benefit.

BETTER - His day had been awful, from sleeping through his alarm, running out of hot water while showering, missing his train and being late for work, and just when he thought it couldn't get any worse, the fire sprinklers activated over his desk, soaking him and all his paperwork just before he was due to give a presentation to his supervisor.

PAPERWORK - The young boy pressed his fingers all over his father’s iPad, gleefully playing with the Notes app until his father came roaring in, shouting “No, Jared! Not daddy’s speech!”
