EXTRA - Luckily, she’d kept an extra bottle of brandy in the pantry, and there was still enough in the way of raisins and currants and dried apricots and glacé cherries and walnuts, as well as sticks of cinnamon, whole nutmeg, whole cloves and ginger root - so she knew this would be a glorious cake; as she got out her grater and the mortar and pestle, she did accidentally drop one clove on the kitchen floor, and Bailey pounced on it and then made a whiffing sound in disgust while Rufus merely stretched himself out on the floor with an air of “Don’t even bother with the ginger, because I’ve been there, done that”…!

ATTENTION - While Grace focused her attention on preparing what she knew would be an amazing cake, Rufus and Bailey took the opportunity to "sort through" the dirty laundry that had been piled in the washing basket until they decided to help out.

NOTICING - Noticing the dogs sorting through the dirty washing and playing with them Grace decided to leave them alone, once again dogs will be dogs! 😉

GINGER - After being distracted by the two dogs, Grace returned to her baking, but had to stop and think, trying to remember how much ginger (if any) she had already added to the mixture.

RED - Before finishing her baking Grace decided to make red iced donuts. The boys watched her and once again their tails started to wag.

DELICIOUS - Grace had discovered that the boys loved shredded carrot and apple; she filled two food ball toys with the mixture and watched with a delighted smile as they turned all of their attention to the delicious (and healthy!) treats, their eyes grinning and their paws determinedly holding the balls as they sniffled with glee.

SHADE - While watching the two dogs excitedly licking at their healthy treats, Grace decided to have a little rest, and sat back on the verandah in the shade of her scarlet striped umbrella.

ENJOYING - Grace was enjoying herself so much sitting outside on her veranda  that she didn`t hear the postie calling her to come and collect the large parcel.

GRAB - Luckily her regular postie was of the friendly type, and stuck his head over her side gate, calling to her to come and grab the parcel, rather than taking it back to the post office for her to collect later.

BEHEMOTH - “Goodness, that’s something of a behemoth!” said Grace in surprise, as she privately wondered whether she could carry the parcel - but the postie replied, “At least it’s not as heavy as it looks, but if you need a hand… ?” – to which Grace responded by trying to lift the parcel, and discovering it was manageable, she grinned back at him with an “It’s okay, but thanks - and happy new year!” before carrying the parcel indoors.
