Sara Tavares' heritage is Cape Verdian (West Africa). Haiti has some great music. I'm a big fan of the Putumayo and Rough Guide world music compilations (along with many others) as they are a great way to taste test world music from every conceivable corner of the planet. I've probably bought a good 150 CD's of world music in the last eight months...like I said...musical obsessions!
