The Ups and Downs of Synonyms (New Game)

I hope this new game will be fun...

In this new game, you have to select a word from the sentence of the previous poster and write a new sentence with a synonym of that word that is either longer or shorter than the original word.

The next poster then chooses a new word from your sentence, selects a synonym of that word that is either longer or shorter and writes a new sentence, and so on.

For example:

- She liked to spend a lot of time at the library, reading old books and pondering about life.

The next poster chooses a word, for example old, and a synonym of a different length, for example elderly, and then writes a new sentence.

- He visited his elderly brother in his tiny apartment and listened to some nice, relaxing music with him.

And so on...

- When she entered the shop that seemed to have magically appeared overnight, she had a strange feeling of déjà vu, even if she was sure she had never seen it before, let alone entered it.

BORING - She really disliked going to medical appointments with her partner, as he found waiting extremely tedious and continuously muttered complaints until he was finally called to see the health practitioner.

MUTTERED - The skinny man with faded eyes and stringy grey-tinged ginger hair stride up and down Bourke Street Mall as he waved his arms about and mumbled incoherent animadversions about the government, the trams, giant electronic billboards, and the smart phones that people were using as they rushed past.

BUMP

GIANT - She had wanted a small clean pet to keep her company in her new apartment, and had chosen a miniature pig because they were quite uncommon and extremely cute, but after a few months found that the seller had lied to her, and the lovely little piglet she bought had grown into an enormous sow who could hardly fit through the doors.

CLEAN - After being held captive in the alien vessel and escaping back to the International Earth Spaceship Melbourne, the cadet had to suffer through the decontamination process before finally being bandaged, fed and allowed to sleep.

CADET - The new trainee thought she would have no trouble learning all the elements of her new job, but discovered it was much more complicated than she had anticipated.

TROUBLE - The actress’s charm was bright and mischievous in her face as she assured the stranded theatre critic that “It’s no bother at all; you’re welcome to stay in one of the spare rooms overnight while the storm passes, and we can call the RACV in the morning after you’ve had a good night’s sleep and a full English breakfast together with champagne. I won’t even scold you for that last terrible review you gave me!”

STORM - With the reverberating thunder and continuous flashes of lightning, that evening's tempest was definitely something to behold.

FLASHES - Scampering home after an evening's disgusting entertainment (which involved numerous exposures of his flaccid family jewels to a peppery old lady using a walker, two teenage girls holding tennis racquets, a boy walking his dog, and a mother wheeling her baby in a pram), the middle-aged man was caught in the storm with hair streaming with rain, and his raincoat was finally serving its correct purpose.

TEENAGE - He was tearing his hair out at the terrible behaviour and attitude of his adolescent children, which he was finding impossible to curtail.
