Account associated with another restricted account?

Hi All,
I recently received an email from ebay saying that my account is associated with another account,  which is currently restricted on eBay. As a result my account has also been restricted. I have never seen the account that they named and have never bought, sold, or had bids on my items from this account.

I have spoken to eBay about this and they asked that I message the user of this other account to ask them to rectify the issues with their restricted account so that mine can be resolved. It seems crazy to me that I should have to contact a complete stranger on eBay and ask them to sort themselves out. I contacted the eBay bidding department and they confirmed that I haven't had a selling or buying interaction with this user.  They said the only option I have is to contact this user and ask them to comply.. I feel really stuck here. How can I force someone I don't know to do this?

"Is there a way to talk to anyone else at ebay rather than through the help chat? I spoke to 4 different people and got the same answer "

Short answer is no, the live chat is the only way to contact eBay at the moment, due to COVID there are no phone contacts that are easily accessed.

I'm so disappointed with eBay right now. After chatting with numerous customer support members they told me that the link between my account and this other user was undeniable and that the only way I could restore my account was to contact this other user are get them to comply with eBay's request to fix their account. I told eBay that I didn't know this person and that I wasn't comfortable with contacting a stranger but they said it was my only option. They have no other way for me to provide proof that I don't know the other user and my 18 years of eBay use with no restricted activity meant nothing.

I ended up contact the other user, accusing them of breaking eBay rules and telling them that they were affecting other eBay users as a result. He responded and said he had no idea what I was talking about, his account isn't restricted but was willing to help me if needed. He was so nice! I seriously regret my message and i'm so upset that I was forced into it. I'm not a confrontational person and I know it sounds odd but I felt sick to think about it.

Another 2 hours being passed between eBay support members and still being told that I have to make this other user comply. Eventually I get put onto someone helpful, they look into our accounts, discover this other account isn't restricted, there isn't a link between our accounts and put the whole thing down to a glitch in their system. "Sorry for your inconvenience"  Ahh...

It makes no sense to me either, unless they are somehow using the same ISP as you are.

Do you know if they are in a close location to you at all ? Do they have a similar ID to yours ?

I think if the answer is "no" to the above then all you can do is contact eBay CS again and ask for a senior supervisor and explain that there's no way you could be connected, and to please lift your restriction.

It makes no sense to me either.

Have you always accessed your account from home? Have you occasionally accessed your account from a library or a Wi-Fi hotspot?

Just wondering if someone who used the same IP from a public place may have broken a rule or something?

Yep happened to me today and I am actually on the phone with someone! They said they were going to put in an appeal and apologized to me saying they stuffed up......will keep you all posted as to the outcome
