I have received several calls claiming to be eBay over the past two weeks. Is this a scam caller or eBay?
I cannot edit my reply any more, but I forgot to say that eBay does not "just" call customers. If they do, they also send an email.
You should not engage with anyone claiming to be eBay support on the phone.
IMMEDIATELY hang up, and check on eBay for a message.
The “eBay call” is a very well-known scam. It is the same (basically) as the “Amazon call” scam, the “bank account call” scam, the “solar rebate call” scam, the “tax office call” scam, etc.
Scammers have taken to posting on eBay forums posing as innocent confirmers of fake support numbers.
I reiterate: it’s a scam. It’s a scam. It’s a scam. Only ever contact eBay via the contact details on eBay’s own site.
EVER.
It appears to be a scam: https://www.reverseau.com/0292937600.html
I can confirm this is eBay Merchant Support.
Yesterday I left a negative review for the use of an eBay code and I left my number hence why today I received a call-back.
@madaz_rx8, that is simply not true. The “eBay call” is a very well-known scam. You are being misleading in saying that you confirm it is eBay Merchant Support– either inadvertently (in which case you are a victim who isn’t even aware of having just given criminal scammers your information) or on purpose (in which case you would be a perpetrator).
Either scenario is possible; scanners have taken to listing on eBay forums posing as innocent confirmed of fake support numbers.
I reiterate: it’s a scam. It’s a scam. It’s a scam. Only ever contact eBay via the contact details on eBay’s own site.
EVER.
