email address already in taken

Hi, I need to change the email address linked to my account.

But when I do it says "email address already taken".

I assume ebay somewhere have this proposed address on file from me ( I tried putting in my wife's email but that's also taken.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I think if an email address has ever been used in the past then it can no longer be used for eBay.

Just open a new email on gmail or hotmail and use that (make it so that it has unlikely to have been used by anyone before).
