Being asked to pay more postage on top of what has already been paid

I've brought an item from Japan and have paid for it including postage.

I was contacted by the seller saying due to Covid 19 restrictions for postaging to australia through Japan Mail they are now wanting more money to send via DHL.

Can they do this?

They probably went to send it and found out Japan Mail is not currently mailing to Australia. I guess it is not unfair to ask for more money for DHL, as long as they are also giving you the option to cancel the sale and giving you a full refund.

They can ask. It is up to you whether or not you pay. It depends on whether or not you want the item, I suppose.

Postal services world-wide are disrupted by COVID-19, so it's not a unique situation.

You can insist on a postal service that is not delivering to Australia, but that doesn't mean you will get the item.

Ask the seller to cancel, get your money back, do some research and THEN, if you NEED to buy from OS, buy from a country that does post to Australia. Or pay the extra for a courier.
