Has anyone challenged Australia Post's refusal to pay compensation for broken item sent registered post?

I received two broken lamps. The box had a hole in it and it was squashed on one corner so it no longer held its integrity. Australia Post has said the items must have been inadequately packaged, which is not correct. There was so much bubble wrap around the lamps and the box was full of additional padding. The postal lady said that the hole could not have caused the damage as the damaged item was nowhere near the hole. I pointed out the her that I had taken the items out of the box to examine them and was not aware that I had to put things back in to the box exactly as they had been when packed. Why would I know that?  I am considerably out of pocket. What is the point of insuring things if we the user have no comeback against what the Australia Post person says. I do not have a copy of that report but I am considering applying for it under FOI. Has anyone had similar experiences?
