Postage???? Confused???

Hi guys,

I am just starting to sell lil items lying around the house collecting dust. Its been a while since I have been on ebay as a seller. This who system has me a lil confused. I don't understand how postage and postage lable works. Many a times the postage cost more than the item i am selling and as i am a new seller I just going to send it at a loss to keep my buyers happy. Its my own fault i should have put a reserve or postage cost paid by the buyer. Can anyone suggest what i should do about postage? What is reasonable price to charge as the recommended price seems awfully high. I plan on opening a 2nd hand item shop and I really need to get ontop of this postage situation as i can't keep selling at a loss.

Any advice tips, hints for a noob would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

For non-breakable items I have always found using the Australia Post pre-paid satchels the cheapest postage option. You can get them at a discounted price by buying 10 or more.

Posting a parcel is no longer cheap to do and Australia Post have managed to ruin ebay for many sellers with their price increases.

Posting a parcel is now the same cost if it is under 250 grams or under 500 grams - so a satchel is the best option.

You can get some real savings on bulk purchases of Australia Post boxes etc, but you need to buy 100 at a time so may be too many for you to consider.

I like to have a couple of different sized satchels and boxes to use to check how I would post an item before I list it and to be sure to get the postage correct. Bear in mind you now also pay ebay fees on the postage cost so you may want to add the cost of the ebay fee onto the postage otherwise you may find yourself out of pocket further - but again just something to keep in mind.

Also pick up a Post Charges booklet from your local Australia Post store and use that to calculate your postage costs prior to listing.

Anyway best of luck.
