Why do items take so looooooong from the States to Australia and we pay more for shipping pre Covid?

What a load of rubbish this postal system is!

It now takes 5-8 weeks for an item to arrive from the US to Ausralia & I'm paying just as much if not MORE than a Fedex service.

I purchased an item from the US recently and they used Fedex, it arrived 3-4 days later! (during covid) So please don't use this a an excuse.

How is this possible? 

Is everyone else experiancing this issue?

I received two different orders from the same seller via Fedex both orders within 4 days (last week and a half) from the states.
The problem is eBay charges the same as other postal services but they have to go through their sorting facility in Erlanger Kentucky. So it does't matter if you purchase an item from LA let's say, it has to go
back the Erlanger then sent back out. Waste of time. The seller should give you the option of which postal provider you want seeing that we're getting slugged for shipping.

eBay don't own Pitney Bowes, so they don't own the depot in Erlanger.

A lot of sellers wouldn't post overseas without the GSP, so that could be an issue for you. You could always ask.

And COVID-19 is an excuse. I realise you don't think it should affect you, but it does. Just as it has affected the entire world.

No excuse, but Covid-19 IS the reason.

Very few flights, you might have been lucky to get a parcel onto a flight that month.

Many parcels, even in Australia are being warehoused until they can get on a flight or some countries are sending by sea during the virus.

What is the service being used for the item that is causing so much angst?

FedEx is a courier service and is usually much faster than a USPS service.
