I received a notification that my parcel had arrived and when I got home and went to open it, I realised it had a different person's address on the back and my address on the front. When I opened it, it was a completely different item to what I had ordered and I assume it was meant for the person who's address was on the back. The thing is, this package was ordered internationally and was sent to an address which I assume is a warehouse where ebay redirects international packages to before shipping them out. This appears to be a mistake that ebay has made and I was wondering how I would go about resolving this as its not the seller's fault (They informed me the item they shipped was packed in completely different packaging to what I received)
Thanks in advance.
If you received the wrong item, then you need to open a return request using the reason "Received the wrong item".
It's not up to you to investigate why you got the wrong item, decide who's at fault, or draw any conclusions as to the seller's liability. None of that is any of your concern. Just follow the correct procedure to get your money back.
