I just purchased an item and entered an eBay discount code but it did not complete.

Hi. 
I just ordered an item and applied an eBay code but it did not complete so I requested a cancellation based upon a funding issue. EBay sent a cancellation request on December 26th but the seller sent order on 27th. EBay replied to my cancellation saying I was too late !  Well I really don’t feel I was late as the request was clearly identified as 26th and it does not make sense to say I was too late!  
is it possible for eBay accept it was not my fault?

Once you've commited to purchase, that's what you've done - committed to purchase.

 

The stock message you received from eBay was the template they send once a seller marks the item as sent, whether manually or by generating a label. The seller is under no obligation to cancel the transaction.

 

If the item is delivered as described, the only option you have left is to return it (at your expense), that's assuming the seller allows change of mind returns.
