An item in the cart is not a purchase and can remain there as long as you like, however it can still be bought by someone else during that time.
Once you have committed to a purchase then payment a.s,a,p. is best. (especially within 2-4 days maximum, unless special arrangements have been made with a seller)
But items in the cart are not purchases.
