why can't I use PayPal any longer to buy an item?

Last week I made a payment for an item via PayPal. Everything went well.

Today, I ONLY had my credit card as an available payment method! I TRIED to add my PayPal account again but eBay said something about managed payments ...  I'm not a seller.

What's going on??

In this case, I was not given the opportunity to select/add a payment method. As soon as I chose to buy the payment was processed through to payment successful without ANY input from me. It was only when I viewed the order that I found that the payment had come from my credit card!??

If you have no money in PayPal, the money will be taken from the cc associated with PayPal. If you look at your item in the purchase history and then look at "order details", you should be able to see more details.

I am aware of that, but eBay has apparently taken away my option to even use PayPal. My PayPal is set up to take money from my bank first and if there is a problem it then moves to my credit card ... but the payment was never even passed to PayPal. It came straight from my CC and I just want to know why eBay has unilaterally changed my payment options.

Is it occurring with multiple transactions or just the one ?

!?? NOW the comment box appears ??! I am not a frequent purchaser - maybe 1/2 dozen a year - and this was the first purchase where I was not offered the option to pay by anything other than CC - and I don't seem to be able to add my PayPal account back into my eBay account

Like I said in my post, maybe that seller doesn't offer PayPal.

And yes a PP account won't be linked now that eBay has reverted to MP's.

You can still purchase with PP providing the seller offers it as a payment method.

As an exercise, try finding an item with PP in the listing and add it to your cart then try checkout without paying and see if PP is there as an option.
