When I search for items, It tells me how many results there are. This number is often not the number of actual results. I just did a search and it said there were 25 results that matched my query but only displayed 7 listings. Where are the rest??
Some of the listings may offer variations in colour, size, style etc. I think the search results number includes each different variation in the total.
