I had about 15 issues of a vintage monthly magazine all listed individually.
A couple of single issues sold, but I received a message from a buyer yesterday who offered to purchase the remaining 13 issues still listed if the total price of all 13 could be significantly reduced and if postage could be included in that sum (my listings were all +postage).
It was quite a discounted figure that he offered, but I had no problem agreeing........ 13 pesky magzine issues OUT of my List of Actives in one foul swoop. I wasn't even going to pretend to quibble at that.
I haven't been a reseller for very long but I knew that it was possible to send an invoice to a buyer with the "correct amount he had to pay". I told the buyer I would sort out what needed to be done and would get an invoice to him asap that reflected our agreement. I messaged him back a litte while later and asked if he could "purchase" all of the items in the usual way on the site..... but hold off paying anything until he had received an invoice from me.
And sooooooo down the rabbit hole I jumped until I could no longer deny that apparently invoices are only used to reflect adjustments to postage costs that arise from multiple item purchases (combined postage). That isn't going to work out here.... the math is too large.... .. I had 13 issues listed between $17.50 and $22.50 each + postage If they were all paid for in full and postage was also added........ the total price was nearly $350 or thereabouts. We had agreed at $125 for the lot including postage.
The postage charges alone on the bulk lot came to $113. If I reduced them to nothing on an invoice, the total item price would still be over $100.00 more than our agreement.
Will I have to cancel the current transaction so I can provide a listing for the bulk lot at the new price and postage terms for him to "buy"?
I would appreciate your advice very very much.
Yes, that is what you should have done to start with.
Cancel using reason problem with buyers address.
Then as you say, create a new listing for all the items and explain that ebay doesn't provide an option to reduce item price, only postage cost, in their invoice.
