A buyer opened a request regarding their item not arriving 1 day after the estimated delivery date and it's only been 18 days since I sent their item from Australia to London.

The delivery estimate was just 8 days- 18 days. Even though eBay says When we have no information about the estimated delivery date, we consider the latest estimated delivery date to be 7 days from the payment date for transactions between a buyer and seller in the same country, and 30 days from the payment date for buyers and sellers in different countries. Also, covid delays are a possibility.

I can't afford to refund the item and postage. I have the mail receipt in front of me.

For a start, what does the tracking say? Has the item landed in the UK?

If you can provide the tracking number, show that you sent it within your specified handling time, and that the item is near being delivered, that may resolve the issue.
