Why did Ebay charge me so much in fees?

Hi,

I'm a casual seller who is now on the new fee/payment system. I'm trying to make sense of why I was charged so much in fees recently.

I sold two items for $40 plus combined $18.95 in postage, and I paid for the postage through Ebay. I was charged $8.20 in fees. It was a fixed price style listing in the antiques section and I didn't do any upgrades that I'm aware of.

Could someone please explain how I lost over 20% of my sale price in fees?

13.4%  of total invoice, including postage, + 30c   = $8.19.93c  rounds up to  $8.20

Note the cost of your postage label will be billed seperate.

Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. Can I ask where the 13.4% comes from? I've been looking at this https://www.ebay.com.au/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4364 and it lists the final value fee as 10.9%

10.9% is if you are not on managed payments and then an additional paypal fee also applies,
On managed payments a single fee @ 13.4% + 30c applies

You sold 2 items at a total of $80.00 (disregarding the combined postage which would attract fvf  fees) you state your fee's were $8.20 

How is that 20% -  it is less than 10% which sounds about right

Hi kopes, that was my initial thought, but the items were both listed at $25 and best offer accepted. so I figure they meant 2 items for total of $40 add post and the fee works out.
