I am new to ebay and I'm selling my first item I was asked for the buy now price which the purchaser agreed to but I'm not sure what to do now he will pick the items up this week do I wait for him to pick up and then mark it as sold?

The buyer has the right to inspect the item before paying for it, and if all goes well they will pay you the cash, and then you mark the item as sold and leave feedback for the buyer if so inclined.
Make sure you give your buyer a definite time frame to collect, and if it goes beyond what you are comfortable with you can ask them to cancel the sale or open UPI dispute.
Wait until the sale is complete before marking as paid.
