As per the title, is there anyone who can explain how you can wind up with a watcher with zero views on a newly listed item or is it just one of those mystical eBay things?
I know I used to be able to add something to my watchlist straight off the search page without actually viewing the item but, I haven't been able to do that for some time now so find this a little confusing.

They have probably done just that, hit the watch item option without clicking on the actual item. I've done it myself quite a few times, even a few times last night.

You can still do that, it's just one of the quirks of eBay that search result settings are constantly reset. At least once a month (sometimes several times a week), I have to reset my search options because eBay keep deciding to show me results using gallery view, best match, no 'watch item' link, and no seller info. (If you conduct a search, click on the dropdown menu for 'View', then click 'customise' to change the settings).

I'll watch the watch for you! Usually i have 2 views on each new listing,1 from ebay bots & 1 from me for listing it.

I do it all the time. Search newly listed every day, click on 'watch'
(can be up to a dozen). Then sort them out at my leisure, keep
the ones that look promising. So maybe no views for a coupla days.
