Hi, I have a question. I sold an item 4 days ago, it was won on a last minute bid, I have had no contact from buyer, and no payment received. This morning, I sent a friendly reminder, stating it had been 4 days and if there is a problem with paying to let me know and we can work something out. I got an almost instant reply, stating "Sorry have had a death in the immediate family so this is the last thing on my mind atm".
If it is the last thing on their mind, why are they on eBay, replying to my email within 10 minutes of me sending mine. If they have to time to respond to eBay emails, why not just pay while on there. Not sure if this is an excuse or for real, I did reply with "So sorry for your loss". Should I be sceptical, which I am not usually, but seems strange, or should I give them time, and how much time?. Need some advise how to handle this.

I'm pretty sure that's one of the oldest excuses on eBay.... Don't give them any time, I would take that response as a clear indication they have no intention of paying for your item.
You need to open an unpaid item dispute, wait a full 4 days, then close it to get the FVF credited back. The buyer should also be prevented from leaving any feedback (or, if they leave a neg or neut, it can easily be removed if it doesn't happen automatically once the case closes).

Well you have the right to open and unpaid item dispute but if you decide to give them more time make sure you don't let it go past 45 days. The excuse could be genuine and then it could be just an excuse to stall.

just open non payment dispute, that way they will either pay you or not, if they don't they will receive a strike and you will get back your FVF.
I just had to do same open a non payer dispute , buyer did message though and wanted me to send goods then they will pay by DD, I don't thinks so. buyer has fb score of 8 3 of those are for non payment.

45 days ??
Think you are confusing the opening of a PAYPAL dispute.
An ebay non payer dispute must be opened within 32 days.

Well she must be having the day on eBay replying to messages, I suppose it is a good way to get over grief.
I sent my first reminder email at 10.16am, she replied 10.25am, I sent sorry email at 10.29am and now she has responded again with "will pay by next thursday at latest" email at 10.48am.
Just seems very strange, if you have the time to send emails from eBay, and it looks like she has been on there for over 20 minutes, why not just pay, I think she is giving herself time to pay, she may not have the funds and does not want to say so, or it could be for real. I will leave the NP dispute till next Thursday night, just in case.

Hi , I am going through the same thing. She won the bid and I think she realised it was too much and she didn't do her homework and now has excuse after excuse. She wont even answer my emails.. I have spoken to Ebay and I need to wait till the four days are over. Then if she doesn't pay , I will open a Cancelation Case against her. You should do the same. Contact ebay and check first then open a case against them. Cheers

Sorry if she has had a death in the family but u take paypal right. How long would it take to click on the pay button esp. if she is online anyways. I think u should open a non payment case.

a buyer messaged me after sending a invoice for 2 magz that weighs over 500g (580g) for $7.20 PH, and ask if i could combine the postage please, lol
after a detailed explanation that the cheapest way to send them are separately @ large letter rates rather the sending them together @ parcel rates. the buyer still hasnt paid, so the best course of action for me was to open an UID. OP i try to avoid messaging buyers if they havent paid easier to go through the UID process.
