A bid then an odd request.

Received a bid on an item today and, hot on the heels of the bid came the following "question" from the Bidder:

I would like to cancel my bid it was a false bid thanks

Now, I know that Bidders can retract bids and Sellers can cancel bids but, what I don't get is why a Bidder would ask a Seller to cancel their bid.

If a Seller cancels a bid, does it result in a defect?

If a Bidder retracts their own bid, is there no impact on their account?

(Additionally, does anyone know what on earth a "false bid" is, apart from my interpretation which suggests shifty business?)

My first though was your bidder might be a "app" user, only because you cant retract bids on the app.

A bid then an odd request.

If there are more than 12 hours left, better the buyer retracts as it will show on their account.

Less than 12 hours only the seller can retract and doesn't affect the account.

Often buyers don't know they can retract.

Thanks Kopes.

As time is tight (14 hrs to go) I may have to act on the Bidders request (provided I won't score a defect for it).  Any wisdom on how on earth I go about that?

Thanks in advance.

I really considered it Springy.  My first impulse was to let it run to a UPI if they couldn't be bothered to deal with their "false bid" (still can't work out what they were trying to get at with that) themselves but, finally figured I couldn't be bothered with the whole painful and pointless 8 day process that would entail.
