Hi fellow Ebayers
I am just after some advice on what action I should take for an item that has not arrived. The auction finished on the 5th of June and I paid with Paypal immediately. That weekend was a long weekend so the following Monday was a public holiday and the seller listed an estimated handling time of 2 business days. So I waited until Thursday evening before checking to see if the seller had posted it. I noticed that it wasn't marked as sent so I sent the seller a message. He responded by saying that he had sent it by auspost "earlier in the week", which means that he either sent it Tuesday or Wednesday.
My local postman always take our parcels to the post office if no one is home. So I sent the seller another message asking for the tracking number so I can make sure someone is homE because I am at work during post office hours for the week. It has now been nearly 5 days and there has been no response. I understand that ebay's rules dictate that sellers are not obligated to provide a tracking number but 5 days with no response seems a bit dodgy. The seller is definitely casual as his last item sold was over 6 months ago so I don't understand why he cant manage a response.
The seller sent the item from Sydney and from experience mail sent through auspost usually takes between 2-3 days (I know there may be delays due to covid-19 but my other parcels have all arrived in this timespan) to arrive at my address so it really should have arrived by now. Given that he hasn't even provided proof of shipping and ebay's estimated delivery date was 12/6-16/6, I am not sure what action I should take. Should I wait a bit longer before opening a INR case?

I think that may not be entirely fair. I can only see 6 feedback left for others so i would say the poster's tendency is more along the lines of usually not leaving feedback at all, (considering they have a a score of 159).
And the negs they did give were all to the same seller. That seller has other negs and neutrals for the same issue-being slow to post.
I think where Joel has come unstuck though is feeling that buying something 2 weeks away from his deadline was enough time to allow for the item to arrive. Normally for a local item it probably would be enough, but given he bought on the Friday of a long weekend plus the seller had a handling time of 2 business days, it is quite possible the item wasn't going to be posted out till Wed afternoon/Thursday morning the following week, which meant the delivery time was actually down to about a week.
Even the ebay estimate stated the delivery might not be till 16/6, which was only yesterday. It's a bit too early to be opening cases, I feel. Unfortunately things are sometimes running a few days late and I suspect this parcel will arrive, although it could be touch & go if it is there by friday. Just tell the recipient that their present is on order but still coming.
I suspect the seller may not have sent it with tracking or didn't keep a record and that is why they have ignored your last message. They don't want to tell you that. All the same, I hate it when sellers ignore messages, it doesn't help their cause as buyers suspect the worst.
Personally, I'd do what others have suggested and give it a bit more time, maybe another week, but if there is no sign of it by then, just open an item not received claim. No need to message the seller again.

I won't quote to save space but my point was they don't seem to deem it important to leave feedback unless they're not happy. Selfishly receiving feedback and expecting 5 star service, but not willing to take a few moments to thank the sellers they are happy with.
As for my thoughts on the total impatience of this buyer, I stand by that. Anyone getting anxious about delivery and who considers opening an INR case, and starts a forum topic about it, on the 3rd business day after a sale needs to go have a game of golf. That'll really test their patience 😂

Actually the 4th business day after a sale. Mollycoddling people just puts a knife in the back of everyone else. Give it to them straight. It's the only way they will learn

Thanks everyone for the help. Unfortunately, the parcel has yet to arrive but I will take the advice and give it until next week before taking any action

I think you are quite correct in that a lot of people are motivated to leave feedback mainly if they have a complaint. It's the way of the world, unfortunately.
Luckily in this case, it seems Joel is going to wait a bit longer for delivery before taking it further. It's always a worry when sellers don't reply to a message, makes buyers a bit anxious, but I think the forum has probably helped Joel in that a short wait is probably the best outcome for both buyer & seller here. Fingers crossed the item does turn up soon.
