I'm not sure if any of you have run into this. I've been generally fine when ads link customers to external website (not going to argue if this is a smart move by eBay). However, I find it unreasonable to have banners that link customers to an alternative eBay store in our listings. They are ACTIVE listings.
We have 8000+ or items and they're plagued with competitor's banner right underneath ours.
Notice our "visit store: iCollected" is a little red door. Comparing that to a colourful giant banner underneath, our customers that we've attracted with our listings will more likely click on that banner thinking they're visiting our full store.
Where can we sign up for Ad choice? ?:|

I have attached a new image that eBay forums didn't auto-crop.

Have you actually clicked on the Adchoice link below it? That will tell you why its there. Yours is most likely on your competitors site as well, so it all evens out really.

We don't get a banner on theirs because I don't remember making any banners anywhere. This would be an external advertisement venture. I've also checked their store. They have their own banner ads in their own store.
Just kind of annoyed eBay is allowing it on our listings. Advertise, holiday air fairs or motorbikes- still annoying, but we wouldn't care less. It's like Big W staff handing out KMart business cards.

If your so worried about then join the Adchoice and get yours on their site. Its View similiar items banner type thing I think.

Oh and till you pointed it out i didnt even know those banners were not even for the same seller so i dont think most buyers would even care if they are there or not.

I will most probably get another warning from EBAY.. and shout down by others.. telling me how cheap it is here blah blah blah..
Ebay don't care, don't listen and don't want most of us here.
They used us, They tricked us and now because they are so powerful they don't need us... I am talking about the small sellers.
They first said Hey we got a great deal for you.. we lowering our listing fee.. we got rid of the basic shop and now you can have this wham bam great new shop for $5 more...
Everyone was happy.. christmas came early... then.. only few months later SORRY now you have to pay $50 for store.. double of what you been paying.
ohh.. but more good news.. they now thinking of wanting the postal charges portion into the final fees... and want direct payment for sale from your paypal.
Here is an Idea... what about free listing until SOLD... ohhh what a stupid Idea I just had. who ever thought of if I get paid you can get paid..
No wonder people are flocking to other sites.
This is coming to be like another Amazon.. only high rollers need stay.. high listers .. need apply..
Not only is greed playing a role.. but now making it harder to find a buyer.. outside ads which I say they collecting moneys like adsense ads.. and at the bottom of your listings more ads to take you away from your item.
But hell who cares... NO ONE... sellers that selling dont.. I am ok.. dont rock the boat.. and if our government can screw us why not ebay too.
Hummm I said enough .. sorry ebay.. forgot we dont have free speech here.. and complaints are delete... oh well I just wasted my time.. no one will to get to read this LOL.

Here's a thought Valdoe. List in the newspaper and see if they let you list without paying first or how about opening a store in a shopping centre and saying you are not going to pay rent until you sell enough items to pay rent......
Or another idea. How about eBay only charge all sellers 50% of the asking price if an item doesnt sell and only 2% of the sold price if it does sell.
That would stop those sellers from flooding eBay with there items that never sell because they could list for free.

Bsal 1 st when you list in a newspaper.. you know that is the final fee... and they dont also put their hand in my pocket for a piece of the sale too..
2nd.. open a store again you know your overheads and again do not want a % of your sales..
Sellers pay fees to list and for selling an item... and then have to put up with other advertising on their listing.. come on tell me thats fair..
If you running a business as you said in a shopping centre by your reckoning it is ok for the shopping centre to then put advertising for another business inside your shop...
But hey I notice your not a seller.. as you have not sold anything for since April last year.. my question to you then why are you so vocal as a non seller.. an ebay stoolie?
Did you know in a survey today by ebay of a friend of mine said.
"eBay would charge different insertion and final value fees across different categories...."
and
"Sellers in categories with lower profit margins would pay slightly lower insertion and final value fees than those with higher profit margins"
How in the heck do they know how much profit margin on a product is... sorry just another way to money grab..

I believe this is what is commonly known as "diversionary tactics". ๐
There were several things mentioned in that survey, but the key point (near as I could tell) was the introduction of fees on P&H charges - it's also the only suggestion they made that has (as far as I know) already been introduced on other sites.
That would be a little like Westfield charging shop owners a fee every time one of their customers uses eftpos.
I dislike the amount of advertising on listings (I rarely see them due to using ad block on both Firefox and Chrome, but I have taken a look). It messes with the entire aesthetic and flow of listings, looks very unprofessional, and the google text ads at the bottom make the site look [I had other words here, but decided to replace them with] less than elegant.
I get the "newspaper" analogy that some put forward, but eBay isn't exactly a newspaper (for a start, unlike a newspaper, they have a vested interest in whether or not a seller sells their item). The search results is closer to what is found in newspaper classifieds - all ads there on one page for people to peruse, the advertisements themselves in newspapers do not contain ads for other companies, least of all competitors. But, somewhat sadly, I (that is, we all) effectively give ebay permission to sell the space we create and pay for to advertise our items by continuing to use the site.
